KAYAKING AND LILO UP STORMS RIVER GORGE, TSITSIKAMMA

If you are keen to explore deeper into the Storms River Gorge, and experience the long, deep, quiet pools with deep caves and ancient forests then the kayak and lilo trip is for you!

KAYAK ACROSS THE OCEAN & UNDER THE STORMS RIVER SUSPENSION BRIDGE

We paddle from the harbour [next to the beach], across the ocean, then under the suspension bridge and up the beautiful Storms River Mouth.

If sea conditions don't allow for ocean paddling, we take a short guided hike through the Tsitsikamma Forest and start our kayak trip from inside the river mouth! 

PADDLE UP THE STORMS RIVER MOUTH

This is where the true kayaking adventure begins - paddling the Storms River, the pinnacle of Tsitsikamma National Park. After waving to all the tourists photographing you from the suspension bridge, we continue the kayak trip up the Storms River. We paddle right into the bats cave and spend time gazing up at the magnificent and spectacular cliffs all around us, all from the comfort of our double sit-on-top kayaks.

LILO DEEPER UP THE STORMS RIVER GORGE

At the low-water point we disembark our kayaks and we jump on our unique lilos. (A lilo is small inflatable boat that we've had specially designed for this trip to access the narrow sections of the gorge). From here we walk and float over a short section of rocks and simply wade deeper up the river on the lilos.

What a stunning view it is, lying on a lilo at water level, and gazing up to cliffs that touch the sky!

At reaching our destination, we simply turn around and float back down river to our kayaks.

CLIFF JUMPING

For the young, brave and adventurous (and the young, brave and adventurous at heart!) You can take the opportunity to leap off the overhangs cliff walls of the gorge into deep pools. The cliff jumping adds a good dose of adrenaline for your trip back, as well as some good laughs, friendly encouragement and one-of-a-kind photo opportunities to brag to all your buddies when you get home. Cliff Jumping is not compulsory - you can simply enjoy the spectacle as you leisurely float in the long pools below. We've had kids as young as 5 and grandparents (as old as grandparents) take the leap and enjoy the liloing, so we can truly say that this activity can be enjoyed by the whole family.

COST AND INCLUSIONS FOR KAYAK & LILO TRIP

Kayak & lilo: 2-3hr R450pp

Please bring warm clothes and shoes that are enclosed and can get wet otherwise you can hire Booties (water shoes) and wetsuits in all different sizes at the shop. 

As we are located inside the National Park, you will have to show your WILD card or pay the National Park Conservation Fee's upon entering at the Gate.

NOTE:  On-line bookings close 3 days before the date requested during peak season.  If you are requiring times or group sizes other than those shown please contact our shop on 073 1300 689 / 076 959 2817 during business hours as other time slots may be available.  Please allow at least 1 hour's wait at the National Park Entrance Gate during peak season as the National Park entry processing time can be slow in summer.

THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES

If the ocean is unsafe due to weather conditions or any other reason not suitable to kayak over, we change our kayak & lilo trip to one of our other exciting trips: the hike, kayak & lilo adventure.

The hike, kayak and lilo Adventure utilises the Suspension Bridge Hiking Trail, and provides an educational hike with one of our informative guides to the Suspension Bridge, followed by the kayak and lilo up the Storms River Mouth.

Activity Breakdown

When the ocean is safe to kayak over the trip will involve in total: 10 minutes briefing, 20-30 minutes of ocean kayaking, 30-40 minutes of river kayaking, 40 minutes on Lilo and +/- 20 minutes Cliff Jumping, swimming and some time in between of just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful view. If the ocean is unsafe to kayak over, the trip will involve in total: +/- 40 minutes of hiking through the forest, 10 minutes of briefing, 30-40 minutes of river kayaking, 40 minutes on Lilo and +/- 20 minutes Cliff Jumping, swimming etc. as above.

TRYING TO FIND US?

We are located INSIDE Tsitsikamma National Park, at Storms River Mouth. Our office overlooks the Storms River Mouth and ocean, and we are tucked nicely underneath the restaurant.

From Plettenberg Bay we are approximately a 45km drive down the N2 towards Port Elizabeth. Take the RIGHT hand turn "Tsitsikamma National Park", and drive to the Park Gate. From the entry of the National Park there is only one road, so you can't get lost! Follow this road to the very end, park in the carpark and follow the red Untouched Adventures signs underneath the restaurant to the Storms River Harbour.

From Jeffreys Bay we are approximately 1 hours drive down the N2 towards Plettenberg Bay. After you drive over the Storms River Bridge and pass the petrol station, pass Storms River Village, and turn LEFT at the "Tsitsikamma National Park" sign and drive to the Park Gate. (This left hand turn is before the toll gates - so if you've passed the bungee jump and are at the Toll Gates, you've gone too far!). From the entry of the National Park there is only one road, so you can't get lost! Follow this road to the very end, park in the car park and follow the red Untouched Adventures signs underneath the restaurant to the Storms River harbour.
