New heritage tourism resource for Cradock

New heritage tourism resource for Cradock

1st February 2017

A new booklet ensures the sustainability of Cradock’s popular township tour. The full-colour publication with more than 50 photographs, ensures that accurate information about the route is permanently on-call 24/7 for visitors and amateur tour guides. (Specialist tour guides are thin on the ground in our country areas.)

In addition to the route commentary, there are biographies of major figures and hitherto unpublished recollections of life in the township during the Apartheid era.

Complied by Brian Wilmot (Curator of Schreiner House) the work is titled In The Footsteps of James Calata and Matthew Goniwe, a tour of Lingelihle township and published by The National English Literary Museum (Nelm).

Cradock has two other popular tours – a graveyard tour (packed with fascinating anecdotes) and a walking tour of literary Cradock which has its own booklet, also compiled by Brian Wilmot and published by Nelm.
